The 2014 BMX Cleo Manago SGL Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship will be presented from BMX National Board. Any high school senior or freshman entering college who is an active member in a LGBT local Organization inside the boundaries of the DC Metro area is eligible to apply.
Applicants will be asked to write a story, essay, journal entry, etc. of 1,500 words or less on the following themes: ” Knowing your SGL History”, The Man behind the SGL phenomenon…“Cleo Manago” or My SGL experience becoming self-acceptance & self-aware.  Entries will be judged on basis of creativity, content, originality, research, clarity, punctuation/grammar, and the author’s awareness of being SGL (same-gender-loving) issues.

Each student is allowed only one opportunity to take the online test.  Any attempt to enter again under a different name, address, etc., will automatically disqualify the student without notification to the student.

Students selected as winners are required to submit the name and contact information of their chosen college/university/certified trade school for verification of registration and payment of the scholarship to the school. Information must be submitted no later than August 31, 2014 or the scholarship will be considered unclaimed and another winner will be selected.

A 2- or 4-year college/university/technical/career/online school based in the United States that has completed & received accreditation from an agency recognized by the US Department of Education

Prizes

A total of $1,000 is awarded.  Two (2) winners will receive a scholarship of $500 each.  Only one $500 scholarship will be awarded to any single individual from this contest.  Odds of winning are based on total number of entries received.
